Design and Circuitry

The MC77 features a discrete transistor audio path and a single-element Class A output amplifier, preserving the sonic character of the original 1176 while using modern, reliable components. It employs a Field Effect Transistor (FET) as the first active component in the signal chain, enabling large amounts of gain reduction with minimal distortion. The unit includes transformer-balanced XLR inputs and outputs, ensuring high signal integrity and noise rejection.

Key Features and Controls

The MC77 provides four selectable compression ratios—4:1, 8:1, 12:1, and 20:1—allowing precise control over dynamics. Attack time is continuously adjustable from 20 to 800 microseconds, enabling ultra-fast response to transients, while release time ranges from 50 milliseconds to 1.1 seconds. It includes a front-panel switch for true bypass via a sealed relay, improved stereo linking, and a sidechain insert loop or key input for external sidechain control.​
