Purple Audio Odd

The Purple Audio Odd is a four-band inductor-based equalizer (EQ) designed for standard 500 Series racks. It is a modern update of the classic "swinging inputs" console EQ, featuring four user-friendly bands. Each band uses a high-quality inductor and carefully selected capacitors to provide two switchable frequency options for versatility. The EQ bands are carefully shaped and spaced to maintain musicality, even with full boost or cut. The highest frequency band can switch between bell and shelf curves, extending boosts beyond 20kHz, while the lowest band also switches between bell and shelf to reach deep subsonic frequencies.

Additional features include illuminated pushbuttons for fixed low (red) and high (yellow) cut filters and a relay true bypass (green) for easy comparison with unprocessed audio. When the cuts are switched out and all bands set to zero, the unit has a flat frequency response of ±0.25dB from 15Hz to 25kHz and -3dB at 60kHz. The circuit uses specialized input and output transformers for ample headroom and a discrete design with no electrolytic capacitors in the signal path, delivering pristine sound with low distortion. It employs KDJ3 and KDJ4 discrete op-amps and has low power consumption suitable for any rack setup.
